KESHER CONVENTION

Registration is now open for KESHER Convention 2005 at the URJ Biennial, November 16-20 in Houston, Texas. In light of recent events, the theme, “Got Chutzpah: God’s Challenge to Reform Jews on Campus” is that much more compelling, as we all have been asked to show the chutzpah we possess through our actions and words during this challenging time. We encourage you to consider participating in our national convention – the sense of community and strength that comes with participating with over 200 Reform college students in this event we hope will provide comfort to many. As the program nears, we will inform you of the hands-on relief efforts that will be a part of the program in Houston, as the local community has already opened its doors and hearts to those in need, and we expect that their activities will continue. We also will encourage program participants to bring items to donate to those in need, and as the program nears we will provide lists of the items that are in demand at the time of the event. http://keshercollege.org/convention

HIGH HOLY DAYS

As the High Holy Day season approaches, we want to be sure that all students have a place to commemorate the holidays, especially those who have been displaced by Katrina and those that will not have access to their home congregation as a result of the hurricane. We will be working with campus KESHER groups as well as Reform Congregations to find services and home hospitality for students. If you would like a place to celebrate the holidays, or are able to accommodate students at your services or provide them with housing, please email Lisa David, Acting Director of KESHER, at ldavid@urj.org. As the holidays approach, we will also be preparing additional liturgy, resources, and social action projects related to Katrina for your campuses.
