NFTY in Israel 2006

Close to 600 Reform teenagers are in Israel this summer, traveling with the NFTY in Israel Experience. As always, their safety is our primary concern. Rabbi Elliott Kleinman, whose daughter is with the group, wrote from Israel to other parents this week that despite the recent events, "The kids are having a wonderful time. There have been some minor modifications to the program, but the educational content remains unchanged...The educators with each group are talking time to talk with the kids about the situation and to listen to and address whatever concerns they might have." Youth & College Programs Update
Eisendrath Internation Exchange - NFTY's High School in Israel
The Fall EIE semester is sched to depart on august 28. There is record registration and we look forward to welcoming 40 of more students with the hope that the present situation will have abaded by then. For more information, please visit

KESHER Israel Connection / birthright israel Program
The KESHER College Department’s Kesher Israel Connection / birthright israel program sent 200 young adults to Israel at the start of the summer – all of the groups returned during the month of June. Registration for Winter 06-07 programs, which will take place in December 2006 and January 2007, is scheduled to open on September 12th. For updates on this program go to

Carmel Freshman Year in Israel / Progressive Beit Midrash
We are closely monitoring the events in Haifa, the host city for our CARMEL program. There are no students currently participating in the program as it is the summer break. We are continuing to prepare for the 06-07 academic year, and to work collaboratively with the Leo Baeck Center to appropriately plan for the program. Updates can be found at
